Paint Mixing: This is when we mix paint from a colour code or colour name.
This is the quickest and easiest way to get the colour you are after.
The colour code is located on the vehicle on a plate, most of the time it will say
(paint) then a 2 or 4 digit number/letter.
For help getting your paint code you can call a dealership and quote the VIN number
of the vehicle.

Paint Matching: This is when the colour code is not available or you would like
your mixed colour to be checked and adjusted to the car or sample panel.
Sometimes the colour code will be slightly different to the car colour due to fading
or variant in the original painting process.
The smallest size we match is 500mls.

2 Pack Paints: 2 Pack is a type of automotive paint that is used mainly in the
Spraypainting trade as it is extreamly hazerdous.
It must be only sprayed in a spray booth and with the correct
safety equipment eg: masks and overalls 2 Pack Paint needs a
hardener to be added to it so it sets just right. 2 Pack paint needs
a 1.5mm spray gun tip or smaller. There are two kinds of 2 Pack
paints which are easily defined.
1. Metallic & Pearl Colours (colours that have a slight sparkle
look to them) This is called 'Basecoat' because it needs a clearcoat
to be sprayed on top of it. (Basecoat is mixed with basecoat thinners
and hardener only goes in the clearcoat)
2. Solid Colours (colours that have no effects. Just plain solid colour)
Solid colour is mixed with 2K Thinners and Hardener, it does not need a clearcoat.
All new cars are painted in 2 Pack Basecoat or Solid, this makes it very
hard to aquire touch up paint for your new car.
But at VG's we can do it while you wait.
note: it is safe to brush on 2 Pack Paint in small amounts.

Acrylic Paints: Acrylic paint can be sprayed in a garage or backyard
and is not as harmful as 2K.
Solid colours and metallic colours can be made in
Acrylic.
There are some colours that can not be made in acrylic.
Acrylic is a lot cheaper then 2 Pack.
Most older cars before 95 are sprayed in Acrylic.
Acrylic needs to be buffed and polished after it is sprayed
and is reccomended to
use a clear coat.
The spraying mixture is 60:40.
60% Acrylic Thinners to 40% Paint
The real key to achieving a successful repaint is in the
preparation. Acrylic is by far the easiest and safest for the
‘car handyman’ to use, however there are some pro’s & con’s
of each to help you decide.
PRO’s
* Easy to apply
* Dries in minutes
* Easily sanded back & touched up when you strike trouble
* Used with a clear coast on top then buffed & polished produces a great result
* It is not harmful to your health
* Over-spray is easily removed
* Cheaper to buy, although you need more of it
CON’s
* Has to ‘buffed’ & ‘polished’ to achieve a good shin
* It’s not as chip & scratch resistant as 2 Pack.

Enamel Paints: Enamel Paints are mainly used for trailers, trucks, concrete
and machinery because it is cheap and is
great for the jobs where the finish dosn't need to be perfect.
You are limited to the colours that can be mixed in Enamel
eg: no metallics or pearls
There are two types of enamel paint
1. Quick Dry Enamel - Equipment Enamel
QD Enamel is the cheaper of the two, it is the quicker drying.
QD Enamel also fades Quicker.
A hardener can be used to make the paint dry stronger
2. Automotive Enamel
Auto Enamel is a bit more expensive, but the finish is a lot stronger
and lasts a very long time.
(if painted correctly)
A Hardener can be used, the paint is only fully cured in a couple of days.
